On September 20, 2024, Innovation, Science, and Economic Development
Canada (ISED) announced a proposal to adopt two new standards: ANSI
C63.2-2023 and ANSI C63.10a-2024. These standards focus on improving
the accuracy of electromagnetic interference (EMI) and field strength
measurements for wireless devices, ensuring their compliance with regulatory
requirements.
Key Standards and Changes
- ANSI C63.2-2023
This standard provides updated specifications for measuring instruments used in EMI testing within the frequency range of 9 kHz to 40 GHz. It replaces older standards to ensure that measuring devices comply with modern electromagnetic testing needs. To allow for a smooth transition, ISED proposes a six-month transition period, during which manufacturers can continue to use existing standards like ANSI C63.4-2014 and CISPR 16-1-1 before fully switching to ANSI C63.2-2023. - ANSI C63.10a-2024
This standard amendment focuses on compliance testing procedures for unlicensed wireless devices. It introduces key updates, including: - Extending the
frequency range up to 750 GHz.
- Updating
procedures for frequency stability, emissions maximization, and testing
for millimeter-wave devices, ultrawideband devices, and unlicensed
national information infrastructure devices.
ISED
is proposing a one-year transition period for this standard, during
which manufacturers may choose to use the previous edition or the newly
modified version for compliance testing. After this transition period,
compliance will require adherence to the latest version of ANSI C63.10-2020 plus Corrigendum 1-2023 and Amendment 1-2024.
