ECC Public Consultation on Updated Technical Deliverables

The Electronic Communications Committee (ECC) has launched a public consultation inviting stakeholders to provide feedback on several updated technical deliverables. These updates cover a range of essential areas including satellite communication systems, intelligent transport systems, short-range devices, and more. The consultation aims to improve the efficiency and safety of communication technologies and is open until December 16, 2024.

Consultation Overview: Key Deliverables and Deadlines

The ECC is soliciting comments on numerous draft decisions and recommendations, with each focusing on a specific aspect of telecommunications or radio systems. Notable deliverables open for consultation include:

  1. Satellite Personal Communication Systems (S-PCS < 1GHz): The draft revision of ERC Decision (99)06 seeks to harmonize satellite communication systems operating below 1 GHz.
  2. Safety-Related Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS): The draft revision of ECC Decision (08)01 outlines technical requirements for safety systems in the 5875-5935 MHz frequency band, which is critical for the future of intelligent transportation.
  3. Short-Range Devices and Tracking Systems: The consultation also includes proposed updates to ERC Recommendation 70-03, covering annexes on non-specific short-range devices, tracking and tracing systems, radio microphones, and RFID applications.
  4. Wireless Power Transmission and Jammers: The committee has drafted revisions for ECC Recommendation (25)01, which includes emission limits for wireless power systems, and ECC Recommendation (04)01, regarding the prohibition of jammers.
  5. Interference and Compatibility Studies: Reports such as ECC Report 363 and ECC Report 364 address the interference between satellite systems and radio astronomy services, as well as compatibility studies for Wireless Access Systems (WAS/RLAN).

How to Participate

The consultation period is currently open, and stakeholders, including industry representatives, regulatory bodies, and technical experts, are encouraged to submit their feedback. Comments must be sent via email to PublicConsultation@eco.cept.org by the respective deadlines, which vary by document but most notably conclude on December 16, 2024.
