Malaysia MCMC Closes Another UWB Band

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has issued a new notice cancelling the class assignment for Ultra-Wideband (UWB) communication devices operating in the 3300–3400 MHz frequency band. The notice will takes effect on April 1, 2026.

What changed

This update follows MCMC’s earlier action on the 3400–3700 MHz range and further narrows the frequency bands available for UWB operation in Malaysia. For manufacturers and brand owners, the message is clear: frequency assumptions used in previous projects may no longer apply to current or future approvals.

Why it matters

This is a practical market access issue for companies placing UWB-enabled products on the Malaysian market. If a product, variant, or radio design includes operation in the 3300–3400 MHz band, the compliance impact should be reviewed without delay.

The change may affect:

  • radio configuration,
  • technical documentation,
  • test scope,
  • certification planning, and
  • product launch timing.

For businesses managing ongoing approvals in Malaysia, this is a good time to reassess product scope and confirm alignment.
