Canada ISED Expands Its 21–23 GHz Microwave Band Plan

ISED’s SRSP-321.2, Issue 1 replaces SRSP-321.8 and extends the fixed point-to-point band to a continuous 21.2–23.6 GHz.

Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) has published SRSP-321.2, Issue 1, the technical requirements for fixed line-of-sight (point-to-point) radio systems in the 21.2–23.6 GHz band. It follows an earlier public consultation and takes effect on publication.

SRSP-321.2 replaces the previous band plan

The new plan replaces SRSP-321.8, Issue 1, which covered only 21.8–22.4 GHz and 23.0–23.6 GHz. It is used together with SRSP-300-Gen, the general requirements for fixed radio systems above 960 MHz, to assess compliance. Where the two differ, SRSP-321.2 takes precedence.

What changed

  • The band is now a continuous 21.2–23.6 GHz, adding the 21.2–21.8 GHz and 22.4–23.0 GHz segments, in line with the spectrum policy decision SMSE-013-25.
  • New channel bandwidths of 60, 80 and 100 MHz are added; the 2.5, 5 and 7.5 MHz bandwidths are removed.
  • The antenna radiation pattern envelopes (Envelope A and Envelope B) have been revised.
  • Requirements already covered by SRSP-300-Gen have been removed to avoid duplication.

Existing links continue; new ones follow the new plan

Systems licensed as standard before publication may keep operating as standard, with any extension or modification assessed case by case. New systems must conform to SRSP-321.2. For equipment vendors, this means microwave radios and antennas intended for this band should be specified against the updated channel arrangement and antenna envelopes.
